I have a few things running on this, and compiled many applications on it.

The reason I am compiling now is because rsyslog just refuses to stay
running and I am trying to find out why by compiling.

"Terminated" can mean something has sent kill -TERM to your "make" 
process. Do you have anything else running on this host?
