I doubt it as there is another application which has issues with OpenVZ.,
thus I am stuck with their older version of the application because of
issues with properly identifying the correct CPU during compile time.


If you are interested in this I can put a link here. It could be rsyslog is
having a similar issue.

I'd retry on a freshly installed (vm) machine and see what happens.
Emphasis on "fresh install", which means fresh download set, no copys from
nowhere and so on...
