I don't know how much this will help, but if you go to
"http://www.sleepie.demon.co.uk/linuxvme/index.html" you will find an
invaluable site for porting Linux to the 680x0 series. Knowing the
similarities in architecture between the two Motorola boards, it does not
seem like a reach to go to the 603-604 series. I am sort of in the same
situation as you (and exceedingly new to RTL), we are starting a project and
wanting to use a PowerPC-750 on a VME backplane and would dearly love to
avoid using vxWorks, but porting is clearly the first problem....
