Alpha AXP outperformes any Pentium espacially with floating point
operations. I used an AXP board on VMEbus (VxWorks) for real-time
and obtained incredible floating performance. The 64 bit architecture
allows the use of double precision floating at no extra cost.
(Have you ever implemented a high order discrete filter in single
precision arithmetic?)
RTL on Alpha would offer more performance than any DSP. I hope
that some people will do the job of porting RTL to Alpha.
