Slightly off-topic, but the newfangled gnomeish desktop protocols allow you
to register this windows-like mechanism¹ of "kill me when I don't respond". I
think it's purely opt-in at the moment :)
¹ which is quite necessary under windows, as there the wm is partially
integrated into the application, but not under X11.
