In effectively 100% of the cases, weird problems on gentoo are due to
gentoo and the admin of the box, which is why I don't do any gentoo
support anymore.
Try to reproduce your problem on sth. else, or use a clean gentoo install
(with the *recommended* optimisation switches), and most likely, your
problem will silently go away on its own.
