The attitude of any organization follows the attitude of majority of the
members. Most model railroaders and NMRA members are HO modelers, so
the perceived 'king' attitude is probably correct.
But how many know that the recent past president of the NMRA - Allen
Pollock - is an Sn3 modeler?
So, by dropping your NMRA membership the percentage of S representation
in the NMRA is thereby lowered justifying more of the 'HO is king'
attitude. Now if we could get all the known S modelers to join, I think
that is about 5,000, S would have larger voice and the attitudes might
change.
It is all sort of like the NASG.... depending upon the membership
numbers - scale vs AF - the emphasis of the organization and the
Dispatch seems to be directed toward the larger number.... as it rightly
should be. There are few Sn3 members of the NASG because they look at
the NASG, see a 'standard gauge is king' attitude, and feel there is
nothing there for them. Balance is a hard thing to achieve.
As for the negative comments about the closed board meetings.... that is
about the only way anything can get done. Attend one of the open
business meetings and time the Q&A and back-and-forth banter about every
issue discussed, and these issues usually have all the concerns worked
out. Now imagine the amount of chatter that would be generated working
out the issues. If the board was an open meeting, it would last about a
week.
Take care, and Happy New Year!
