Hi All,

Not to discourage anyone from contacting Jim King, (like below) and
discussing possible new S Scale projects with him, I am quite frankly
getting a little tired of the suggestions that the NASG should be the Sugar
Daddy for any new project, or even producing any NEW products beyond the
much needed standards gauges. Admittedly our Pennsy S Models brass projects
have by far NOT gone as we would have liked, but we are STILL soldiering on,
we WILL complete them, and we have not asked the NASG to front 1 red penny.
I think that special runs such as the recent very successful NASG Pullman
project are in a different vein then producing something completely new.

In short, like PSM, if you want to make something in S, step up, do the
research, find a manufacturer, and run with it. My builder has often said
"Share the risk, share the reward." It is all right there, I could not have
said it any better. The opportunity to make or loose a dollar in S exists
for everyone every day.

Sorry, but I think this is something that other current S manufacturers have
thought for a while, but have not publicly stated. WE need to reexamine the
purpose of the NASG if it becomes a manufacturing body competing for the S
dollar with current S manufacturers. IMHO, the purpose of the NASG today is
being the communicative body that keeps all of the flavors of the S
community informed by producing the Dispatch, and organizes the regional S
events and National convention. That is it!

When deciding on a new project, you have to pick an item that YOU want to
have made, and hope that you can sell off what you cannot afford or do not
want to keep for yourself. Again, I just do not see why in 2006 the NASG
should risk a loser project, but on a more important scale, compete with its
current S manufacturers for the ever tightening S Scale dollar.

Thank You,
Bill Lane

This might be an area for NASG pet project car?

I've been asked to do S scale a few times before but since I don't model in
that scale, I don't have personal interest. However, if someone comes
forward, either an individual or company, wanting me to design and produce
kits for their exclusive distribution, I'd be happy to do so. Talk it up
amongst your friends. Perhaps I will reconsider offering some kits in S if
there is a sufficient market.

Thanks for your inquiry.
