I had to fix some axle binding and shim the gearbox covers when my RS-3 was
new. With the fine tuning it ran for years.
When I tried to run it recently, I found something is locking up the drive.
I haven't yet investigated whether this is a gear or a gearbox problem, but
a drop-in replacement drive that fits without having to hack up a finished
model would be really useful.
One mistake not to repeat is the total lack of clearance under the
gearboxes. If a grade crossing or other obstruction is sticking up higher
than the railhead by more than a hair's width, the truck scrapes bottom.
