Michael, Friends, Of course the prototype used girls in PR and ad events on many occasions is the past. I remember an ad for Timken roller bearing, I think, with a bunch of girls pulling the locomotive with a rope. Maidenform bras used a girl in the middle of the tracks with the copy line "I stopped them in their tracks with my Maidenform Bra". I'm sure there were dozens of other times where the use of the pretty fairer sex was used to sell railroads. However, in today's politically correct society much of that type work is gone from the corporate world, however it's brought out in the much more sleazy forms by many of the same corporations. Now to get back to S trains, I recently received a packet of really old S literature that contained some very interesting information. One was an ad sheet from Northeastern Scale Models. They listed the famous 7 panel boxcar (later sold by Kinsman) and a 9 panel that I never have heard of. There was a sheet of all the Nimco conversions--I didn't know they made a kit for the 0-8-0 switcher. The description of the Midgage freight truck was pretty interesting also. Ben Nixon talks about not releasing plans for future products because they get flooded with questions by mail--seems as though most manufacturers don't get enough mail when they announce their interest in S now days!
