Thanks John. I hope it will be fun to operate. I intentionally designed it
to be a bit of a challenge to switch... given it's small size I felt the
play value would benefit in so doing.

Well... space is at such a premium, I wasn't willing to give up the diorama
that I designed inside the closet for staging. Besides, doing so would
require opening the wall even more... and a wall stud would be in the way.

So, I will operate 12th St. Yard as a combination live/fiddle yard. During
an operating session, I will begin the "day" switching the inbounds as a
live yard, delivering outbounds back to the yard at the end of the "day".
Between sessions I will use it as a fiddle yard and manually swap the
outbounds for inbounds as I ready the layout for another operating session
"day".

Remember, as a railroader, I only see a maximum of 12 hours at a time of a
railroad's 24 hour life cycle. Cars/etc are different when I return to work
again. So, it doesn't bother me at all to return to "work" on the KC Lines
the "next day" to find the outbounds have been picked up and the day's
inbounds have been delivered. Happens all the time in the "real world".

Bear in mind that IF I actually revive and get fully back into the hobby of
model railroading... then you could view the little KC Lines as a warm-up
for the retirement layout. In the process, it will tell me what I want to
know about S scale, as well as give me a head start on the equipment and
things needed for a larger replacement layout with the same theme over a
decade from now.

Thanks for your comments, John!
