Father Nicholson:
> Nice plan!
Thank you kind sir!
> One of the positives is the double track...
That feature is a holdover from my 3R days. One thing I learned is that
sometimes it's relaxing (and to a degree, somewhat therapuetic) to simply
watch miniature trains circle around. No switching, no constraints... just
watch the trains.
It can also be used to do exactly as you say: A place for some unattended
mainline movement while I switch cars.
> If you don't mind a suggestion, extend that spur...
Suggestions always welcomed and seriously considered.
During its design stages, I really, really, thought about doing excactly
what you suggested. In the end, I opted to go with what I have so that I
can use that tail track for a team area for much needed car industry spots.
What I haven't fully decided yet is how I want to treat the layout, in
regards to how it will relate to operating rules.
That is, I have considered the following:
1. As if there is only ONE mainline (the outer loop), with the inner line
simply being an extended industrial siding. This way, I can mosey about the
inner portion with a switcher and cars without needing mainline authority to
switch the yard (because one would have to use the inner main as a lead), or
access much of anything, really.
Or:
2.. Putting the entire layout under a Yard Limit rule, which would minimize
the use of signals later on and minimize some of the fun of coordinating
with any mainline movements.. ( I have a couple of model railroading friends
that can be used one at a time to enjoy the layout with me.)
I am leaning toward option 1.
> Of course, Santa Fe WILL make an appearance there - won't they?
Well, this is the KC Lines... meaning if it ran in KC... it's fair game!
Seeing as the Santa Flush was a major player in the KC area during my
childhood years... it's a given that SOME form of Santa Fe will make its
presence known. Actually, I have been eyeballing that upcoming SHS NW2 in
ATSF Zebra: Classy!!!
Thanks again for your input. Much appreciated.
