This email is for Bob Werre, but in case other group members are facing the
same problem I am sending it through the group. If you respond to this
email please do it directly to me as it is off the subject of S scale.

Bob, (and anyone else who has a similar problem)

Just as there were conflict problems with VHS recorders -VHS or BETA- there
are some DVD player manufacturers whose products will not play all formats
of DVDs. However, SONY DVD players should play them all. I have 3 SONY DVD
players and they play all DVDs fine, not just the ones from the studios.

Actually, I should say they played all formats fine when they were new. But
some eventually became "picky" about what to play.

I think there may be something wrong with your particular DVD player.

If you will email your mailing address to me I will send you a couple of
DVDs in different formats for you to try.

Your handbook for your DVD player will also tell you which formats your DVD
player will play. Look for DVD-R/RW and DVD+R/RW. If it says it will play
these then there is a problem with your DVD player itself.

If you don't have your handbook or can't find the information in it, please
email me your Model Number for your SONY DVD player and I will find the
information online.

For anyone who is interested in the DVD format conflict problems, this is an
excellent site:

Oddly, it is usually the cheaper DVD players that do the best job of playing
all formats. Memorex at Sears is great for under $40. COBY is available
locally for under $40 and does a good job.

When anyone goes to buy a new DVD player I recommend they look specifically
for the wording on the box itself. I should be on the outside of the box:
DVD-R/RW

If it is not on the box I recommend you buy a different brand of DVD player.
