George,
Blue Board is actually a type of gypsum wall board that's used for tile work.
Since your stuff is 1-1/2" thick, I assume it's blue foam insulation board. I
use it all the time in the exact same way. First, you have to use the correct
grade of liquid nails. Use Liquid Nails for Projects. It has a blue label and
is safe for foam. The first time I tried Liquid Nails I used a solvent based
construction grade. Amazing how fast a giant hole developed! Next, you have
to spread it evenly using a toothed trowel that looks like this
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^. It will conserve adhesive while getting a nice even coating.
Lastly, you need to weight the area. I use a combination of weightlifting
plates and various chunks of brass, iron, paint cans, whatever I can find. It
takes a while to completely cure, but 1 or 2 days should be sufficient to
remove the weights and move on to the next step.

          Gentlemen:

I need advise on attaching blue board to quarter inch luan. I used
liquid nails; after 24 hours this was affixed to a frame of 1 x 3s.
However, in a short time the 1.5" blue board separated from the luan.
What did I do wrong? Is there a specific method of application? A
better adhesive? Thank you, George
