The Kadee 802/808 is easily mounted on AM house cars by drilling (#52 bit) and
tapping for a 1-72 machine screw through the dimple on the bottom of the
floor's coupler pad. You may have to ream the coupler box's center hole with a
1-72 clearance drill (#48 bit). Then run a 1-72 screw into the hole to secure
the Kadee box. If the box tends to rotate about the screw axis, a dot of super
glue where the box meets the floor will prevent this. If you want a firmer
mount, follow this by drilling (#55 bit) and tapping for 0-80 machine screws
through the two outer holes in the Kadee box and run 0-80 screws into these
holes. These methods are a lot simpler than reaming the box and the coupler
shank for a 2-56.

Buy yourselves a set of 00-90, 0-80, 1-72, and 2-56 taps, a pin vise, and an
assortment of drills from #40 through #60. These are not expensive and have a
multitude of uses. Go online to Micro Mark for these.

And while you're at it, use a lighter knuckle spring (extras are in the
package) instead of the fatter centering spring in the coupler shank. This
prevents longitudinal springiness in your train, and makes delayed-action
uncoupling much more reliable.

Any liquid styrene cement will weld the kadee 802/808 box lids to the boxes
themselves. (I prefer Tenax 7 or Ambroid Pro-Weld solvent cements. These are
strong and set quickly.) Just touch a size zero artist's brush, dipped into
the cement, to both sides of the joint between the box and the lid. Capillary
action will draw the cement into the joint; it will be solid in seconds.

Gluing the PRS Kadee-compatible box to the PRS floor is quite reliable,
provided you use liquid styrene cement. It'll never come loose.

The Kadee On3 and S couplers are the same, but the gladhands are slightly
different in length, color, and shape. They are interchangeable, so if the On3
coupler is cheaper than the S, buy it.

There is no difference in coupler mounting between AM scale and hirail diesels;
both come truck-mounted. BTS makes brass Alco diesel coupler pads (part no.
02085, package of two for $4.50) that fit the AM PA/PB and FA/FB chassis.
These make the body-mounting job easy.
