Nord's ad in the October 1947 issue of Model Railroader says: "A faithful copy
of the heavy U.S.R.A. 2-8-2 used by many railroads today. ... A masterpiece of
motive power ... engineered to make most of the advantages found in S gauge.
... eight fully sprung 63" drivers ... Price, complete, less motor: $49.50.
Cartridge type permanent magnet motor: $7.50. We leave it to you to compare
value and prices with equipment in the older gauges.

The same issue listed the Miller S2, twin-motored, at $22.50. Mid-Gage
advertised freight car kits at $5.25 to $6.25 and their 80-ft. heavyweight
passenger car kits at $8.50. Northeastern Scale Models had a wood GN caboose
kit at $6.75.

To compare, in O Scale, Lobaugh's Berkshire kit was $128, Varney's B&O
Ten-Wheeler kit was $100, and Athearn's freight car kits were $6.00 to $6.85
each.

In HO, Varney's Pacific was $37.50, their B&O "Dockside" was $15. HO freight
car kits were dirt cheap, mostly around $2.50.

regards ... pqr

  Subject: {S-Scale List} Nord Mikado

Another one of my projects is building a Nord Mikado.
  Is it a USRA version?
  Heavy ?
  or
  Light?
Mine has a very small tender.
My intention is to do it as a GTW Mike and have all the details.
But I really want a longer tender. Any ideas?
Thanks for the replies in advance,
  Ken
