I like it! I will have to see what I want to make "operate". Coaling tower?
 Water crane?

Ed could enter his track water pans...

Have fun!

Subject: {S-Scale List} Lotsa Operating Accessories.......

  Gents....

Let's suppose that someone out there in S-land wanted to stimulate the
enjoyment of operating accessories. Suppose he offered up a (hypothetical)
million dollars to get a surge going in that direction. Suppose someone
took him up on his (hypothetical) wager, but then was not assured of
actually receiving any cash prize money. Suppose said person then lost
interest in the accessory surge. Lots and lots of emails flurried about,
but nothing tangible was happening -- other than internet traffic increased
for about three days. What to do?

Suggestion: Instead of a (hypothetical) million dollars, why not offer a
GENUINE $100 of prize money for the most realistic operating accessory to be
entered in the NASG contest at the next annual convention? With a motley
amount of prize money, perhaps many folks could be enticed to build a
realistic operating accessory and bring it to the convention and enter it
into the contest. Hundreds of other fellas would see them, enjoy them, and
maybe decide they wanted something like that for their own layouts back
home. The next year offer $200 prize money and the number of entries would
more than double. At some point a manufacturer would take notice, build a
working prototype, place it in Tom Hawley's hands, and maybe even start
production -- if Tom believed in it hard enough. Now the train is rolling.
The following year rates a $300 prize.

Perhaps TimBoy could make the initial donation of prize money and NASG could
establish a new category for contest entries. In addition to steam, diesel,
freight, structures, etc., the new category would be called OPERATING
ACCESSORIES. Points could be won for creativity, realism, mechanism
complexity, prototype authenticity, reliability and so forth. The TimBoy
Award would soon rival that of the Bernie Thomas Award. It could happen....

What say, Tim? How about a C-note to get things rolling?

  Cheers....Ed L.
