What a wonderful idea !!!

After trying to read through all the messages about new magazines
or e-zines etc., I find myself confused.

Personally speaking, I count myself among the "converted".
The problem, for me, is not a lack of publicity or advertising
but a shortage of suitable models, especially locomotives.

It seems reasonable, if simplistic and obvious, to think that the
potential market for S scale should lie somewhere between HO scale
and O scale.
But this would depend on the availability of a similar product.

What are the most popular prototypes ?
Can they be produced to the same standards as in other scales ?
Is that where the desired growth would most likely come from ?

I'm what you might call an "average" modeler - but I have a few
thousand dollars waiting to be spent on railroad models, just
as soon as the right prototypes see the light of day.
( That is, if it happens in this life.)

And it's not as if I am very particular either.

I would be interested, I would be knocked out, if someone like
Atlas, or Kato, or Tower55, or anyone else who currently matches
that quality of R-T-R production, were to come out with some of
the more popular prototypes in S scale.
I do know there are historical reasons against, and I know
there's a chicken-and-egg situation regards minimum demand,
but just for the sake of making some suggestions :

Steam : 4-6-0, light 4-6-2, 2-8-2 etc. ...
Diesel : GP-20, GP-38, SD-40, SD-40-2, Dash-8, or ES44DC !

O.K. - That's all cloud-cuckoo dreaming - but maybe the best source
of growth for S scale might be folks like me who would be willing
to spend a bit of money - if the right product was available.

( Possibly I'll be flooded with suggestions as to what I should
spend my money on, but I probably don't need them ).

I do hope that this posting will be seen in the spirit it is
intended - as one opinion (hopefully constructive) regarding the
various ways forward for S scale.
I definitely don't want to seem offensive to anybody.
Happy modeling anyway, to all, and more success to those who
make the hobby possible.

Cheers.

Pete.
