Jim, I have finished my WEG a few weeks ago, I opted for the wooden sides (wish I had the room and $$ for the other version also). What a Sweet car. I lettered mine for the ATSF using Greg Komar decals--he gives excellent service. I weathered the heck out of the wood sides--they demanded it.
My modeling projects have been pretty much in the weathering arena--I worked on a dozen or so cars (till the alcohol wore off--one has to have some courage do start on a brass factory paint job). I've also been tweaking a couple of 3 way turnouts on my new staging yard (no alcohol here). Next I've got to add some DCC plugs to some of our modules and add some wiring to a passing siding. I attended a 60th wedding anniversary for a local hobby shop owner (mostly retired now). Of course most of the folks there were modelers. The discussion there was the thinning of under the layout stuff--projects that will never get built. The guys realize that their wives will have to get rid of the stuff on the layout so why burden them with the vast assortment of mystery stuff under the layout. Makes sense.
