Bob:
You're correct about the NP round roof cars not being from the B&O.  
My reasearch years ago indicated the DT&I had several hundred cars 
built using the PRR round roof drawings.  In the late 40's they sold a 
bunch of them to the NP, both 40 and 50 foot versions.

There is additional info in the old S/Sn3 Modeling Guide, April 1996.  
I modeled one of the NP 40' cars from a PRR round roof; my guess is 
Ken Z. has done the same.
