Hi, Raleigh, Bob, and others that are interedsted in the somewhat (to ME) hazzy
history of S....gotten old!

I beleive you are right, in retrospect, that the Hudson S scale conversion kit
was a NIXON/NIMCO ( Nixon Model Company) kit. And that I merged the experiences
of this and my 2-8-0/2? NORD that Billy Click aquired. I do now recall that the
Nixon drivers seemed to be superior to the Nord style, the Nord having flat
head screws at the center of the drivers to help hold on axles...getting them
precisley quartered...if I remember correctly, was a chore.However if a person
with reasonable care put the kit together, the running gear was fine. The large
gear and driving that gear was also a problem, some were especially noisy.
Again a lot had to do with modeling skill. They had a lot of neat features ,
brake shoe hangers, sprung drivers and easily removable axle/driver assembly
with keyed axle bearings that slid up and down with spring tension. and
complete valve gear, drive rods etc. The castings left something to be desired
but were well proportioned, and in the hands ao a skilled modeller would become
a "brass" engine that could hold its own in power, quietness and detail to any
import. I do remember going thru many dozens of Dremmel, burs, grinding and
sanding wheels to thin down walk ways, and various cast boiler flaws and
filling a variety of small hole sizes with brass rod of various sizes. In the
end ..had a darn nice boiler to look at. And don't forget that wonderfull heavy
mass of a bronze cast boiler..TRACTION!

I have three of the Nord frames for some conversion projects...if I live long
enough. Have also aquired an AF Hudson /SSL&S conversion kit with beautifull
Box-Pok drivers...would rather have spoked dirvers (anyone want to trade?).
Also in a box awaiting the errecting shop...??? TIME where does it go!
