Raleigh,

I bought 3 of Howard Phillips' AF HW 80' conversions at a subsequent 
convention somewhere along the way for something like $20 or so each. 
Your assessment of virtually no visible splice is correct. I asked how 
it did it and he said on a table saw. I have never been able to get such 
precise work from a table saw.

The only thing that made those conversions stand out was the roof 
profile on the AF HW cars was too wide and a bit squatty.
