Ed,
I probably own one of the few, (or maybe the only), S scale working
cushion underframe cars. The late Hansel Main built an 86' HiCube
Automobile car completed with a working cushion underframe utilizing a
rubber band for the adjuster. The coupler lift bars also would expand
and contract with the underframe movement. I was fortunate enough to
purchase it when Hansel was liquidating his collection shortly before he
died. He was an interesting and innovative person and his structure kits
were sorely needed in S scale at the time. Now I wish I had purchased
his Main Central wrecking crane that had several motors in it and
operated prototypically.
Incidentally the HiCube 86' box also had rotating spinners on the trucks.
