The FMC box car photos with caption were in product "annoucements"
and not in product "reviews". My best guess is that Ron had them on
display at the Anaheim, CA NMRA Annual Convention and the MR
photographer took the photo and someone wrote the caption/text. So,
using my infinite wisdom, I'd conclude that Ron took the car and
placed it on the table and the MR folks did the rest. Just a
guesstimate to be sure -- and I could be wrong. Either way, the end
result has lots of room for improvement if the goal is to motivate
scale modelers rather than runners of toy trains.
Nothing wrong with runners of toy trains, but there are other
conventions and other magazines that cater to that hobby. Why not
promote a product in the publication that reaches the target audience
with the various options appropriately installed that turn the
readers "on" rather than "off"? After all, politicians have very
different messages when speaking to different kinds of voters.
Nothing wrong with that and it works to good effect.
