Hi Simon. Good to read your contribution. I've never used Sergent couplers so
didn't know if they were compatibility with the 802s/SHS clones, which I use
exclusively. I have too much of an investment in 802s now to chuck them for
something else. I suspect a lot of other folks on this list are in the same
situation.

Just wanted to let you know the CN E-10-a you built for me is still the
sweetest running locomotive on my layout. I can't thank you enough.

And thanks for your kind words about my post.

The mountains are still here for next time you can visit. Attached is a shot
of the Whistler Mountaineer southbound in Cheakamus Canyon, just to prove it.
This shot is from 2007. I've ridden the train every year it has been running
and was on it again last week. It sure reminds me how lucky we are to live in
this beautiful country.

All the best to you.

regards ... pqr

Subject: {S-Scale List} Sergent coupler compatibility

Not posting very often but I always enjoy reading the treads.

One major draw back of Sergent couplers that I don't think it has been
mentioned is it can't couple to Kadee 802 family and clones (SHS). The reason
is because of the almost 1:1 replica of the coupler. (I am not sure but I think
it can on HO 5's family)

The problem I have with this is I want my fine scale models (those that I
like to stairs at and photograph) to operate with the "normal" or fill-in
models on my layout that are equipped with 802/SHS. I personally think there
could be some compromises done to have a good looking coupler be able to mat
with the mass, not necessarily "operating" for automatic uncoupling/coupling
but at least to be able to couple them and run.

Don't get me wrong, my ideal view of model railroading would be a true 1:1
replica of models, tracks and scenery. If I had a million (and the time), I
would do it. However, the practical side of it is not it. I really liked pqr's
(John) post which put in perspective the true reality of MR (and the size of
the Rocky mountains that I miss down East).

  Simon
