Ed,
I belong to a group called "N Scale Yard Sale" that does this very
thing (with the exception of the restrictions on post format and
appropriate items). Instead of bidding, most folks will say "submit
your best offer off-list" and set a deadline for offers (usually 3
days). The system seems to work very well.
However, I just mentioned that I'd like to find an SHS SW-1 on this
list and I got three offers (off-list) from folks who wanted to sell
theirs. I bought one and the transaction worked out great. Perhaps
this system already exists on this list!
As far as Ebay is concerned, I'm a buyer but no longer a seller. All
of the fees that folks complain about are aimed at the seller, so
unless you're selling, you really don't have much to complain about.
As a buyer, "caveat emptor" is the rule of the day. My suggestion for
sellers of S scale stuff would be to try this list before going to
Ebay. Likely as not, you're going to contact the same buyer!
Which brings up a question: Anyone got a River Raisin Non-dynamic FT
set they'd want to part with?
