Jamie:
You hit on a couple, it is easy to fit just about any freight car
into a scene, but structures tend to be more specialized. There is
the great tendency to buy more and more locomotives and freight cars,
far more than we can ever use; yet not buy structures. We only buy
them when we 'need' them. I've salted away only a few structures,
mainly Heljan breweries and Korber power plants. OTOH, I have enough
rolling stock to cover a few scale acres!

One other thought, the tendency not to buy structures might just
point to how few layouts actually exist in S scale!?!?

The explosion of great DCC sound products has forced me to take a
look at the pile of locomotives. Addition of sound decoders is a lot
of work and a significant expense. In a perverse way it has made me
assess whether I really need them all! (The answer might be' "Of
course I do! I'll just wait for sound decoders to get cheaper!!"
