Don, I was talking about Billboard reefers that were typically owned by
the leasing company's. They were outlawed by the government back in the
30's I believe. This did not apply to direct company ownership of cars
or cars that weren't used in interchange. I would assume that would be
the case with the Marhoefer car--but I will stand to be corrected. I
know there were Swift, Morrell, Armour and many other car owners who
painted their cars for the company that owned them because they handled
only that company's products--but those aren't typically refereed to as
billboard cars. In today's world billboards along the roads are owned
by firm who lease them for a span of time to whomever wants to lease
them and the same was true of billboard reefers.
