One of the things that Ed Loizeaux did not mention in his post is
that the O&S West is a....scale only meet. By scale I mean that there
is no American Flyer or Lionel at the meet. There is SHS and AM on
site and for sale, but without the, big wheel tall flanges and really
large couplers! The 10+ layouts on tour are also all scale. For "S"
this means no Flyer or hi-rail and for the "O" guys it means 2 rail
only, no three rail. The layouts on tour for "S" are both narrow gauge
and standard gauge. The standard gauge ones are of the large radius
type. There also will be many many dealers. Dan from River Raisin will
be there with his tables and goodies for sale. I'm also looking
forward to meet the new owners of NWSL and talk to Railmaster a little
about those fabulous diesel drives from New Zealand.
Unknown at this time are the guys that get in for free,(did I say
that?) or get "S" scale stuff as a door prize. I also heard something
about a new "S" scale car? This meet usually happens over the
Presidents holiday in February but this year it is earlier. There is
also a one in one thousand chance that it will snow. It has snowed
here before, I think we got a 1/4 inch but not during the meet, I do
believe it was in 1958. This event is really all about scale guys
getting together.
This year should prove to be another brass lovers dream. There are
even more brass sellers coming to this show than the one last year and
last year there was a lot of scale brass for sale. I know I emptied my
wallet! I talked to one of the sellers yesterday and he is bringing a
table full of diesels, and modern ones too (several SD tunnel motors)!
I plan on taking what little NYC and PRR passenger cars I have along
with some of my caboose collection and maybe, just maybe, a finished
steam engine or two (NYC, UP).
I think all of the "S" scale only BASS 2009 calenders are gone
though. Maybe there is a secret hidden one in the door prize bag! I've
now got to go paint more brass.
