I thought you might like a little frame of reference for comparing the
price of the NASG convention.

Thursday I will travel to Baltimore to attend the convention of the
North American Academy of Liturgy. This convention occurs once per
year, and is almost required for anyone working in my field. As far as
I know, nobody in the Academy is paid anything to put on the
convention, and the Academy is smaller than NASG. This convention is 3
days long. There are seminars (=clinics) but no layout tours. The
registration was $300. The banquet was $83. The hotel rooms were $120
a night, but they ran out before I registered.

The people attending this convention are mostly university professors,
who typically make a little less than public school teachers, and I
guess photographers. With airfare, rental car (since I have to stay at
a different hotel), no banquet for me (no door prizes anyway), this
convention will cost me about $900, without even buying any brass models.
