Mark,
Welcome to the world of S. You are correct in that we really don't have
a really good core body to build upon. It seems as though a gentlemen
by the name of Ladd Houda was in the process of making that exact thing
but a fire in his workshop changed that. Ladd is now in On3, I
believe. Ladd did make a whole series of passenger car parts cast in
urethane that were quite good.
So at this point we have two choices, the older style NE wooden roof and
floor or using the American Model's streamlined (Great Northern style)
cars to cut up. The first choice is somewhat dated and maybe hard to
find. The second choice might be hard to find as they haven't been made
in many years plus there has been some debate about the accuracy of the
shell itself.
My thought would be to work with another supplier to make up a simple
kit as the basis for your sides. The kit could be made to be cut
shorter for those who need shorter cars. So a floor section, roof
section, two end pieces and perhaps some kind of bolster/centersill
pieces should do the trick.
I would welcome your additions to replace my present and incorrect fleet
of passenger cars.
