I plan on using three decoders in all locomotives larger than a 2-8-0,
one for sound
and mounted in the boiler, one for the motor and mounted in the boiler, one for
the
tender light and mounted in the tender. Mount the peaker in the boiler and
install wipers
on the firemans side drivers of the locomotive. No wires between the
locomotive and
tender and no need for power pick from tender to locomotive.
I have small, 0-6-0, and 4-6-0 that I scratch-built and there is not
enough room in
the boiler unless I reduce the weight size to almost nothing. These I will
have to put the
decoders in the tender. The good thing is these models are so small that I can
use
Soundtraxx tsunami's and I don't need a seperate motor decoder.
With all of the previous import models with the Pittman motor I've found
the
Soundtraxx Tsunami decoders are under rated at 1.0 amp. At this time I plan on
using a
Maybe someday Soundtraxx will offer a 2 or 3 decoder that will fit in the
boiler for S scale.

I will put a motor decoder only in the tender to
run the back up light if it is necessary.

My guess is it is only we "model railroad toads
that think a tender must have a reverse light that
operates like an automobile!
