Hi Gale;

Technically, the reefer version was an "R7" rather than an X23. The R7s mostly
went to FGEX in the 1920s. The Matheson dry ice car was owned by FGEX
subsidiery National Car. In NATX service thes cars also lasted into the 1950s,
some even getting plug doors. Not bad for cars built before WWI!

Bob,

You know Kinsman made that X23 reefer kit in a double kit, a Dry Ice reefer
and a PRR/ express company reefer.

I think the X29d is a good choice. It's a great late transition era car
and
though I model 1956, a few of these in new paint would suite me just fine.

A really neat car to do would be the X-23 boxcar. It was a unique boxcar
because on most of them the doors slid to the left instead of the
right. Though it's much older, many of them hung around in work train
service til the 70's. They were wood sided cars with stamped metal
diagonal
bracing. The Pennsy used the same basic carbody design to construct
reefers
as well. And, many of them were even converted to cabooses with bay
windows
and porthole type windows. So, one basic body could yield a multitude of
versions of the car.

All,

The X29d was "new" in 1955. It is Shadow Keystone scheme only to the best
of my knowledge. IIRC, some parts of previous X29 were recycled, but
mostly
a new box was built. This would be 1 of the last cars I could use and
stay
in my era.

I have photos all the way up to X29L.....

Thank You,
