Well sir....you asked me what I did. You did not ask me what YOU could do. An
airbrush is not needed. Someone out there makes a felt-tipped pen (think:
small Magic Marker) meant specifically for painting the sides of rails. I
think it might be Woodland Scenics. Seems to me this is about the easiest way
to paint rails without an airbrush. A spray can would probably work except for
the spray pattern being so wide.

Y'betcha....I use a rag on my fingertip soaked with track cleaning fluid and
apply it to the railhead. After the paint is sprayed on, just wipe the
railhead and the paint comes right off. No scrubbing at all. Clean as a
whistle...!
