Carey....If'n I understand your internal debate, I think you will be more 
satisfied in the long run with one large layout as opposed to two smaller 
layouts.  Longer runs, more switches, more operational possibilities, etc., 
etc.  So I would think, under these circumstances, you should aim in the 
direction of one really fantastic layout that can handle both hi-rail and scale 
wheels.  That, to me, would be far more intersting than two smaller simpler 
layouts that each handle one or the other, but not both.  I think SHS imports 
wheels to replace AF's oversized flanges with something more realistic and 
similar to other hi-rail wheels.  So I think running AF cars on hi-rail track 
is easy enough to do, but I don't know about AF engines.  That would be the 
hard part, I think.  Maybe using SHS or Tomalco flex track would solve the 
problem nicely.  Might need some Tomalco switches for a more realistic turnout 
that is less sharp.  Just some ideas.  Have fun...Ed L.
