That’s exactly what I did on my second layout, Pieter. The problem with combining hirail and scale, in my experience, was the turnouts. I eventually moved to all scale, and the open frog turnouts are so much easier to build/install/maintain. I sold most of my Flyer and put some sentimental pieces on the shelf. Got enough money from the sale to buy a few brass steamers and diesels. SHS and AM provides the rest of my motive power. A lot less headaches all around! Now I just need to find some more scale wheel sets to replace my hirail ones........
