I have a Plastic AF Pacific that I have not finished detailing.
I can't believe that the makers of steam engine details have not offered kits
to up date AF engines. From a business sense they get to sell product. From an
educational sense I get to learn the names of the parts and what they are used
for on a steam engine. These bodies have been around for ever.

When I found the wheels it motivated me to start a project.

I took a battery train wheel and cut out the spokes and cut the wheel so a AF
tire would fit. The only problem was the size of the AF axle. It was made to be
industrial strength for kids.

So what front of a ssls steam boiler will fit a specific AF engine? I would buy
one if I knew.

It is not possible to know if you can't pick one up and test it out.

The manufactures have made it impossible to buy product. They ignore AF
conversions just like in politics.

I bought a Bacmann ON3 engine to convert to S.

So what else needs to be done????

New sand domes? Hell I have no idea. I don't want to become and expert, I just
want to finish the project.

I have a number of Rex kits. Someone put On3 wheels on the lead truck. Please
tell us who sells it, because we will never find those wheels on the internet.

Some of us just like a cheep challenge.

So as some of you do projects please keep a parts list for the rest of us
uneducated to try and copy what you do.

I bought 3 brass engines. One is a Nord.

I have no idea what parts may have fallen off.

I had that $50 steam engine book, but I lost it while moving so I don't want to
buy another one.

The AF DC conversions run great. I doubt whether $2500 brass engines run 200%
better?

So my Little deuce coupe AF Pacific will run great at scale speed.

I keep looking for HO and O scale wheels that could be used. If all the AF
Atlantic wheels were replaced with spoke wheels that would be a cheep great
running conversion. The Atlas Atlantic does not look any better. I though I
would buy one to convert.

The thing that I can't do is valve gear. I keep looking at Lionel venders to
see if some thing migth work. I bought a large shop drill, but I never had shop
in High School. So my ideas are bigger then my abilities.

So I am enjoying the creativity part. Doing what no one has ever done before.

So I was in New Mexico 20 years ago. A guy showed me his O gauge AF engine with
custom made wheels from a Marx engine.

Is it not all about us? We will all be dead soon and know one will judge us by
what we did basted on any standards. They might say this guy did his own thing
and trains kept him from going nuts in the real world.

I wonder if to be all scale you have to be annal retentive?

I'll up load pictures of the AF Scale wheels when I wake up tomorrow. I am at
work third shift.
