How about using the Canon CN22 motor as a replacement. This motor is very
popular motor. Used in HO scale in the Coach Yard brass locomotives. These
pull very well. Should not be an issue for S scale.

Hi Bob --

I would have to actually take my GP apart to verify this, but I think I used
a Sagami 2240 in my GP. The longer motor has more torque and better low end
speed control. You have to figure that all the flat can Sagamis have the
same commutator/brush space, so that extra 4 mm is a big difference in
armeture length. Anyhow, it runs exactly like my other brass and modified
AM F units...

Have fun!

The Sagami 2236 is a good motor but I feel it is underpowered because the
engine is a little slow getting off the line.
