Hi Dick; Those changes would make the car look more like an ACF (or several other builder's) cars. As is, the cars are most similar to GATX cars which did not have the end or stub side sills. See the Google Books reference I posted earlier which covers some of this.
For GATX cars they should have two-rung corner steps. Pieter E.
