The actual size of brick varies from the '2" x 4" x 8"' quoted from below.
Brick are made to fit into an 8" cube one long, two wide, and three high,
including mortar joints. Depending on the actual size of mortar joint, and
realizing that actual bricks can vary somewhat too, the "true" size of a brick
is 7 1/2" long, 3 1/2" wide, and 2 1/6" high. IF designed for a 1/2" mortar
joint. The joints themselves are spaced on centers of 8" long, 4" wide, and 2
2/3" tall. This allows brick to be "worked into" cement (cinder) block with
it's standard 8" joint centers.

Many other sizes of brick are now and have always been available, but this is
the "standard" size for American brick.

By the way, I also vote for scale brick, but am doing most of my own brick work
using Plastruct sheet, which is quite close to scale. I sand down the surface
a bit to flatten the rounded effect.
