A variation on the issue, not only your model trains but any other supporting 
research material should be accounted for, or at least potential heirs made 
aware of it's value. A recent case encountered in conversation was an 
individual with a layout and a considerable amount of supporting documentation 
in the form original railroad documents, blueprints, etc. On his passing, the 
heirs eventually contacted his club for help in disposing of the models. When 
asked about the paper work, it turned out they had already consigned those 
"musty old papers" to the trash, and were very upset to learn that their value 
may have been more than the models. "Why didn't anyone tell us?" Hard to do 
when you act before asking, but if the owner had told them before hand a 
valuable collection would have been saved.
