You are encountering one of the bigger nuisances of word-processing software.
I am not familiar with Star Office, but look at your menus for something with a
name like Format: Picture, often displayed by right-clicking on the image (in
WORD and Corel WordPerfect, both of which I use.). This will have menu items
allowing you to attach the picture to particular text, to a postion on a
particular page, etc.

This is all good to know how to do, but you may be making it harder than it
needs to be. Are you required to supply the publisher with "camera-ready" copy
-- ie, must what you send look exactly like the finished page is to look like?
If not, just insert in the text a note that says "illustration A about here"
and then clearly label the illustration files.

OK, Gang:

I know this sounds crazy coming from someone who should know better, but I'm
working on a manuscript for publication and cannot keep inserted images in
proper position. I've use JPEG's, Bitmaps, various sizes and you name it, but
every time I close and save the file, whenever I reopen it to work on it, the
images look like someone played 52-pickup with them.

I realize I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer, but why won't photos and
graphics stay where I insert them, but end up everywhere and anywhere in the
manuscript but where they should be when I reopen the file.

What am I doing wrong? Aren't word processing programs capable of this (I use
Star Office 6), but, if so, why do they allow you to insert graphics in the
first place?

Offline replies and advice welcome. I'm getting tired of being drug through
this keyhole [backwords] every time I try to build a manuscript
