Brooks: I was mainly trying to insert small file photos in the manuscript as a temporary reference for my use, then remove them and include the original photo files and captions in a separate folder.
What I have found out since posting my question is, that I can save the files in Microsoft format with Star Office, but the photos will not stay in place if I try to re-open them with Star Office. The files I save in a Star Office format reopen just fine with Star Office I have re-opened the Star Office file I saved in MS format with my Microsoft Works word processor and it came up fine. I think I have found the answer to my own problem. I have used Star Office for years, but always had this problem. I guess from now on, when I want to include graphics for whatever purpose, I'll have to use Microsoft Works. Every problem has three solutions, the easy way, the hard way, and the Nicholson way, which is usually a creative version of the hard way. I have written and photographed for other publications for many years. While my formatting is definitely self-taught "School of Hard Knocks", the editors of the major publication I write for tells me my submissions always makes their job easy. I guess that's not too bad for somebody who thinks he knows where he is going, but can't tell anybody how to get there! As far as photography, the only thing I can say about that is that my late mother always said I took good pictures Thanks, everybody, for the responses to my original cry for assistance Bob Nicholson ___________________________________________ --- In [email protected], "Brooks" <bcgsteam@...> wrote: > > Bob, > > If you are submitting a document for publication in some magzine, they will > NOT want you to try to insert photos into the text.
