Greetings from the cold and frozen tundra of Minnesota. The very cockles of my
heart though are warmed as I remember the enjoyment of my S Scale railroading
this past week. I posted earlier this week that I am creating two view blocks
using components from ImagineThat. I mocked up a vision of my concept and when
the Pines and Prairies S Scale Workshop guys came over Thursday, I asked for
some comments and ideas. As I expected, I was provided with a number of great
new ideas to consider and now I am charging ahead happy with how the scenes are
evolving.
This was a very busy evening for the Workshop, Jeff Saine and Dave Aanerud
were busy creating turnout pieces and assembling a turnout for Jeff's railroad,
Ron Kemp was dry transferring lettering to boxcars, Dave Hamilton was
investigating the programming on Jace Kahn's 2-8-0 while Jace was displaying
the great work he is doing on a 44 tonner and looking through my box of diesel
detail parts for items he needed to complete some projects. Tom Lennon
reviewed the work I am doing on my H10-44 and the scenic projects while
troubleshooting a locomotive project he has going. Sure there was the typical
banter but unlike most PPSSW when all was said and done this evening, a great
was actually done. While Jace has been a member of the PPSSW for some time and
even served a term as president, this was his first Thursday night visit and we
enjoyed seeing what he is doing and having him join in the conversations. I am
pleased he was able to find some trinkets that he could take home to help him
with his projects. Jace, sorry I must have missed the box of freight car
detail parts. I am sure you would have found brake components for your Rex
projects.
I recognize that Ipromised some images of the ImagineThat pieces and I will
work on that. Seems reality put a few tasks in front of me and painting the
framework of the buildings has taken a bit longer than I anticipated. I will
post some photos of the framwork, brick inserts and "stock sheets" of brick and
block I purchased. For reference, I will post a couple of the buildings I am
using for reference. When they are all in the mhrywest file, I will let you
know. Steve Doyle and Jeff Saine are also working on great industrial scenes,
I am sure we will get these posted and be happy to discuss our findings.
Thanks for the link to Model Tech, while the buildings don't fit my needs the
coal conveyors are great and I will need some of them.
Finally, my NMRA magazine and 1/6th model guide both arrived this week full of
great material. I noted Dick Karnes had significant articles in both
magazines. Thanks Dick for the great ideas and for being such a great
ambassador for S.
