Well, well. I was just about to start putting together an important
announcement concerning the 1:64 Modeling Guide magazine, and what do I see
when I check the old e-mail? A completely unsolicited voice of support from
Dick Karnes. Thanks, and your check is in the mail (or it will be as soon as
some money comes in).
My thoughts, observations, musings...
There is no doubt that the economy is still a factor, which is going to make
the announcement I referred to above a bit of a tough pill to swallow--but that
can wait for the moment.
I believe I have published some outstanding articles. Dick's "Engineering
Column" is first-rate, and I have a feature from him waiting in the wings that
is supurb. There are also other submissions received which are excellent that
will be seeing the light of day, starting with the Winter, 2011 issue
(currently under construction). There have articles by Vic Roseman, Philippe
Coquet and other outstanding modelers. Submisisons are always welcome, by the
way.
That said, I am amazed at some of the fantastic work that I have seen shared on
this group and others, and apparently not a thought given to submitting it to
me for publication (or other magazines?). The message that sends me is the
future is in e-publishing.
More features, photos, etc. mean more pages, which means more expense, which
means more subscribers and advertisers are needed to pull it off. Ditto for
more color.
I admit that I have made my share of blunders and missteps in my short tenure
at the helm. Being more visible is one (it's not because I'm not handsome, or
anything like that). I do make it point to at least attend S Helper's annual
open house and the CJSS fall event, where I have met and get to see at least
some of my fellow S scalers. There is an NASG event happening in Edison, NJ in
a couple of weeks that I plan to participate in.
I'll resist sharing any further self-criticisms, as I don't want my poor little
reputation to suffer further shipwreck, at least not by my own hand.
The sins of the former publisher are still being visited upon his successor.
That, too, is an occasional thorn in my side, as are a few deadbeats who still
owe me money. I know, it's part of the game, but an unwelcome part all the
same.
I've gone on too long. In closing, let me again thank everyone who have and
continue to support the 1:64 Modeling Guide. I will continue to improve my
game and put out the best S scale publication possible, for a long as I can.
