If I may, I'd like to endorse what Dick Karnes said about the need
for turnouts :-
. . . " Granted, there are some missing items, notably flex-track-compatible
motorized turnouts. . . . .
To me, the unvailability of such a product hanging on a hobby shop sales
rack, so to speak, is the single most glaring need in S.
Dick Karnes "
I personally am not qualified to speak about scale versus highrail,
all I know is that there is a definite need for a standardised and
reliable, easy-to-operate system of trackwork and turnouts.
Among the people who set up this group are many respected members
who, through sweat and effort, taught themselves the skills necessary
to create and construct a quality S scale layout and/or models.
To those people I express my greatest admiration.
However, speaking for myself, I simply want to have a good layout
based on ready-to-run quality models and trackwork.
The standard I want is a universal track system that is suitable for
operating with scale wheels from the likes of SHS and AM.
As with just about everything in S scale it's questionable if there
could be any sort of consensus on this but maybe it would be the
best way to go to ensure the future of the scale.
It seems a bit contradictory that even at a time of economic recession
this group seems to be growing and growing - 981 members and rising.
I can't help thinking that many, if not most, of these members would
be glad and willing to go for a trackwork system as described.
The outlook isn't something to be gloomy about - we have the SSA
SD45 to look forward to, and that will need just the sort of switches
that Dick Karnes was talking about.
So, what's the chances of looking at this again and seeing if it can
be moved forward and brought to fruition ?
