What about model airplane fabric? IIRC the older planes had cloth coverings?
Canvas coverings can vary a lot, I've seen yachts with canvas roofs that look
as smooth as fiberglass and I've seen fishing boats with canvas textured very
rough so it depends on the look you want.
The smooth canvas would probably require something like thin smooth typing
paper while the rough canvas might work better with some kind of a textured
paper like eye glass wipes? ....dave
