Yes Jim, Dan is a crusader for the good of S, just like SHS and Overland 
did back a few years ago and to some degree what Pacific Rail Shops and 
Southwind had done with their full page ads in magazines.  I think model 
railroading was buzzing with just a little S envy.
I would suppose the only manufacturer running 'big time' ads is PBL in 
today's market.

I often have mentioned that a manufacturer can sell to his market or he, 
with lots of effort, create a market for himself.  In this case I'll 
bring up PBL again, as they pretty much have created a market, and have 
extremely loyal customers in that market.  They sell a goodly amount of 
brass engines (plus their new hybrid K engine), passenger cars and lots 
of injected molded freight cars.  I don't know how many full time people 
they really have in running the operation but they are a good source of 
many items and they seem to manage to pay California taxes!
