Chris, you are right about the PBL line of plastic RTO cars. Some even
have individual graffii applied to them. IMHO, that's going a bit too
far...but if it sells great. If you check back a few years you'll see
some SHS detail shots, and even before that I shot a series of detail
shots for Red Caboose's GP unit that specifically talked to the fine
detail and sharp paint schemes. I was pleased to have helped in both of
those efforts.
I think we need to be careful in exactly what we're talking about in a
priority sense. One of the stated duties of the NASG to promote the
scale/gauge. We probably should not promote any particular brand or do
advertising for companies other than to help in the general sense.
Likewise it's not particularly important to sell memberships to the NASG
either--that should come as a side benefit.
I don't see the NASG doing any large flashy photo intensive ads to
promote the scale. It doesn't take long before one manufacturer to feel
his products aren't being pushed like they should be. But most
important those ads are expensive to run long term, which is generally a
requirement to get results.
