Hi Bob, you probably know more about this subject than just about anyone so I
have to agree with you but my impression is that the great thing about S scale
is the size so any promotion that makes the perfect size apparent is gonna do
the most good. An S highrail layout in a photo looks too much like an N scale
layout to impress anyone who is not familiar with S but seeing it in person
would be a whole 'nother matter. So I'd emphasis things like modular layouts at
shows, S scale at swapmeets,S entries in all scale contests, etc. Videos should
be a good way to point out the size of S and construction articles that include
a shot that shows how it relates to the human hand might be nice.
Didn't the SN3 manufacturers build a traveling display many years ago to
promote their narrow stuff? Was that any component of the success of SN3?
I'm not sure why there even is an NASG. We are all model railroaders able to
hold our own in the big wide world, why not just be part of the NMRA or the
wider online modeling community? Seems like shaking it up from within would do
more good than trying to do it from outside?
Had a nice visit up at EdL's last week and got inspired to clean out a space
in my shop for a layout. See what a little in person exposure to the perfect
size of S can do even for an old dog? Now we gotta get JaceKahn up there :>)
